Children’s Education

Baptism in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) isn’t just about the individual but the community. When an infant or child is baptized alongside the parents making promises, the community also makes promises to guide and nurture that child as well. Our children’s education program arises from those promises we have made.
The base of the entire program is the nursery. We have two professional nursery attendants every Sunday morning, Laurie and Casey. Every parent is given a pager when their child is signed in. This pager is used to communicate with you if there is a problem.
Most Sunday mornings the children begin in worship and will be included in a children’s sermon early in the service. After the children’s sermon, the kids are dismissed downstairs to various classrooms. Our Sunday school follows a workshop rotation model offering children different ways to learn about Biblical stories based on Howard Gardner’s theory of learning with multiple intelligence.
During most summers TPC puts on a fun and informative Vacation Bible School. For one week out of every year the church is transformed into a fun, imaginative landscape and adults get to sing, wear costumes, and have a blast helping kids learn more about God’s love for them.
We also know that parent’s education goes hand in hand with children’s education. Every fourth Thursday we offer childcare at the church, while parents head over to Pastor Ken’s house for appetizers, beverages, and conversation relating to parenting in a group we like to call Parent Survival Group, AKA Whine and Wine.
